Project management of $100m infant formula milk factory, Middle East

The client:
Middle East private investment company.

The brief:
To project manage and be liaison between the client (PSIG) and supplier (Niro / GEA) for the building of a $100m state of the art Infant Formula Milk Powder Factory to produce 15,000 tonnes per annum. Based in the Middle East, this project involved the development of a world class building, as well as providing the right equipment, people, recipes, processes and quality controls for its successful launch. The project also involved securing a Joint Venture partner for the project.

The solution:
Watson Dairy Consulting provided project management and MD services for the duration of this project and managed it from a greenfield site through to a state of the art Infant Formula Milk Powder Factory with a successful product launch and all the necessary legislative consents and approvals in place.

Within 6 months of product launch the company won the Ministry of Health benchmark for Infant Formula Manufacturing Quality Systems. The company was also awarded the benchmark for Standards by the Ministry of Standards.

Shortly after commencing manufacturing, the company entered into a Joint Venture with Danone, securing their position as the leading manufacturer in the region.
